What is the difference between a traditional and a next-generation firewall?

A traditional firewall allows or blocks traffic based on simple rules, such as ports and addresses. A next-generation firewall adds application-level inspection, intrusion prevention, web filtering, and threat prevention, so it understands the traffic passing through and stops threats a basic firewall cannot see.

Isn't the firewall built into our router enough?

Rarely, for a business. Basic built-in firewalls offer limited protection and little visibility. A properly specified and configured next-generation firewall gives far stronger protection and a much clearer view of your network.
