Sustainable development has never been more important. With climate change rising and the effects of environmental impacts being felt by many around the world, sustainability is now a leading conversation for nations, counties and businesses globally.
But what does sustainable development mean? At Cratsol, we believe in people, environment, and prosperity. This means we believe that in order for sustainable development to take place, it has to be built on credible and profitable solutions that not only promote environmental best practice but also coordinate the needs of the user. It’s about creating profitable environments that take a long-term look on people and the environment across three aspects: reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Sustainability projects are becoming increasingly prominent across the UK, and we are proud to see Yorkshire as a county driving development. For example, York and North Yorkshire have set an ambitious target to become England’s first carbon-negative region by 2040, with a West Yorkshire clean-tech, low-carbon and environmental sectors generating £2.1 billion in GVA.
Cratsol and Sustainable Development
As a company, we strive to design paths reducing the impact of carbon and waste on our environment, both within our local county and globally. We have built three areas within our business model: our operations, our services, and our wider work inside our community and industry, ensuring that our company is instinctively designed to promote circular and sustainable outcomes.
We were delighted to be recognized recently with the King’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development this year, marking our commitment to sustainable business practice and environmentally friendly policies.
Our solutions are often designed to support the entire IT lifecycle. From sustainable procurement, with high-quality refurbished hardware, to extended hardware life phases through maintenance and resale, as well as environmentally responsible IT disposal solutions, we fuel the circular IT economy.
Cratsol was the only company in Yorkshire to have received this award for Sustainable Development in 2026, and one of only thirty-five businesses in the UK in total.
Local Sustainable Development
While our core business services operate on a global level, we aim to help develop sustainable habits and practices within our local area as much as possible.
We work with organizations and groups locally to advocate for sustainable development in our area and reduce environmental impact. For example, members of our team created the York and North Yorkshire Business Sustainability Peer Network in 2025, a group aimed at pairing local businesses together to share sustainability knowledge and support clean tech.
We also hold sustainable technology workshops at local schools, highlighting the materials that go into the technology we use every day, sharing tips for more sustainable use, and holding tech collection drives for redundant devices.
